YOGA GETS PUNKY

He may have sung of a desire to be a dog, but Chic & Geek finds it difficult to envisage iconic punk maestro Iggy Pop posing as an upward-facing pooch.

Then again, the opposing philosophies of punk rock and yoga have never before been linked until now.

Local online label Yogurt Activeculture has launched a new range of attire (and cool looking guitar print yoga mats) aimed at hard-rocking yogis.

While this columnist views the collusion as a bit of a well, stretch, Yogurt's founder Morgwn Rimel offered this: 'It may seem like they are at odds, but if you think about it, punk rock is more than just music and style. It's an attitude-- a way of life and being, just like yoga.'

And I thought the only reason to embrace yoga was as a means of getting closer to devotee Christy Turlington.

YOGA THE LOOK

Gone are the days when activewear was daggy and boring. Enter Yogurt-- a punk rock inspired sports wear range with attitude. Made especially for yoga sessions, the ragen features comfortable tees, tanks, pants and accessories for men and women who want something a little different from the conservative, pastel-coloured offerings that saturate the market.

If the slogans 'Enlighten Me' and 'Poser' appeal to you more than the standard motivational lines like 'push it to the max', then this is definitely your bag. And even if you aren't a yoga enthusiast, these outfits look good enough to wear out.

The range is available on-line at www.yogurtactiveculture.com and $1 from each item sold goes to charity.

YOGURT STIRS UP YOGA

Is it just us or is Yoga getting a bit rock and roll? This time last year everyone seemed to be heading off to Ashram in Karala for a couple of weeks of modest omming with the monks everyday at 5am, this year everyone seems to be off to Costa Rica to stay with an ex-New Yorker who presents her own mix of yoga and extreme sports. Anyway, if this is your thing, then maybe you'll need to update your yoga wardrobe. No more Indian oranges and pinks-- consider some Aussie attitude from Yogurt Activeculture's range of clothing.

Yogurt was inspired by the reaction to the founders wearing iconic black rock T-shirts to class-- T-shirts with slogans like 'Bored' or 'Poser' on them:

'It sparked an interesting debate about what yoga really meant to us. Sometimes we ARE bored. Sometimes we DO act like phonies... and embracing these experiences is part of the process of self-discovery and awareness that we commit to when we practice, and in our lives in general.'

And that planted the seed for founders Morgwn and Gee...
